How to Find a Reputable Hair Transplant Doctor
By: Matt Adler
Hair transplant surgery is the final step for cases of extreme hair loss. It can be an awkward and sometimes embarrassing procedure for many people. A major fear is finding the right doctor to perform the surgery. There are several tips you can follow to help you choose the right doctor.
Check the doctors credentials. They will often be certified by one or more of the following organizations:
AACS: The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery
ABHRS: American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery
AHLC: American Hair Loss Council
ISHRS: International Society for Hair Restoration Surgeons
If a doctor is willing to give a price quote over the phone, they may not be reputable. Each person is affected differently from hair loss, and has different hair loss needs. Consultations should be one-on-one and in person. All fees should include follow up visits. Ask exactly what is included in the fee.
Ask the doctor to see before and after pictures of procedures he/ she has completed. If the doctor only shows you a brochure that is not personalized to their office, it may indicate they are not willing to show the work they have performed.
Most reputable doctors will explain all risks involved. If they try to avoid this issue, they may be trying to sell you the procedure without properly educating you. Likewise, they should inform you of what your personal time frame for results as well as expected hair density will be.
Most physicians will not give out patient information, which means you may not be able to ask for references. Perform a search on the internet for any doctors you are considering, and try to get referrals from any other people you know who have had the procedure completed.
It is important that you never rush to select a hair transplant doctor. Take your time and make sure you ask any questions you have. Once you feel comfortable with a doctor, you know the procedure will be right for you, and your hair loss will become a thing of the past.
